Dansarna Arika Yamada, Jim De Block, och Oleg Stepanov bildar tillsammans plattformen Odd in a Knot. Utifrån den vill de skapa projekt som spänner över olika konstformer och ikväll kan du se, eller kanske snarare delta i, deras föreställning på Chalmers AHA! Festival. Vi ställde några snabba frågor till Arika Yamada.
Hi Arika! How are you?
– Hi! I’m fine, thank you.
You work as a dancer at GöteborgsOperan?
– Yes. Jim, Oleg and I are all dancers at GöteborgsOperan, and the three of us are a collective called Odd in a Knot. We are a platform for collaboration.
How did you end up in Gothenburg? What do you like about the city?
– Gothenburg brought us together from different corners of the world. Oleg is from Ekaterinasberg, Russia, Jim from Antwerp, and I’m from New York. There are some interesting people in this town. With us coming together, our curiosities of what other people are up to in their own disciplines, wanting to collaborate is what gave us the initiative to start our collective here in Goteborg. It was just the right place for this to happen!
”Sharing the space without an illusionary wall between us”
What is happening at Chalmers tonight?
– We are happening at Chalmers! We have produced a site specific performance for the AHA! Festival. Tonight is your last chance to see it, so don’t miss out. It’s at 8:30 pm.
What do you want the audience to feel, and think about, after watching your performance?
– We want our audience to be immersed. Without distinction of the ”performer” and the ”observer,” a front or a back. Sharing the space without an illusionary wall in between us. And in this way I hope we are in the experience together instead of watching ”it”.
Good luck with the show tonight!
– Thanks!
Odd in a Knot består av Arika Yamada, Jim De Block, och Oleg Stepanov. Ikväll ser du dem i Chalmers foajé kl 20.30.
