Den senaste tiden har det mer eller mindre regnat feta dancehall- och reggaeartister över Göteborgs scener. Idag är inget undantag när dancehallens främst kvinnliga frontfigur, Spice kommer till Pustervik.
Hi Spice, tell us a little bit about you!
– For those who don’t know my real name is Grace Hamilton. I’m known as the Queen Of stage because of how I dominate the stage in my performances. My first billboard hit single is romping shop with Vybz Kartel. I’ve been in the music business for over a decade now and I’m dubbed as the baddest female dancehall artiste in the business right now. My most popular songs are Fight ova man, Jim screechie, Needle eye, Back bend, Indicator and So mi like it which has over 71 million views putting me in the spot as the first female dancehall artiste to have gained so many views on a single dancehall song.
How did you get started with music, especially dancehall?
– I got started in the music business when heavy D junior Fraser gave me the opportunity to perform on Sting and I went as a no namer and got four anchors. That’s when my career started. However I didn’t get my first hit until Baby Cham introduced me to Dave Kelly and that’s when I got Fight ova man in 2003.
”Music video is an art”
It was hard to avoid all the music videos when I search on Jamaican dancehall stars – how important is the music videos in the world of dancehall?
– Music videos are extremely important to me and that’s why I put in so much effort into my music videos. It is a visual that fans will see world wide so music video is an art that I use to hype the song and get fans to see forms of different creativity. I normally just work with Xtreme arts for most of my videos because he’s able to bring my vision to reality.
What can we, as an audience, expect from your show next week?
– I can guarantee a great performance when I hit the stage. I’m sure my fans will enjoy every moment of it.
Why do you think dancehall’s so big in Sweden of all places?
– I think dancehall music is big in Sweden because of the vibes it brings and the people love the high energy that dancehall brings. It’s a genre that makes you dance and wine, and have a good time. Maybe thats why they love my music as well because it brings that flavor to the club to make them bounce.
